Special Project

This project consisted of 10 modified shipping containers joined together to create a two storey Container Office Complex and featured a heavy duty staircase and overhead Colorbond Gable Roof. The complex consisted of an open-plan office and coffee station downstairs, and a boardroom and lunchroom upstairs split by a bi-folding partition.

The containers were built for BAE Systems Australia, a company that specialises in advanced defence technology that protects people and national security, and keeps critical information and infrastructure secure.

We asked Mark Wityk, the Property and Facilities Coordinator at BAE Systems, why he decided to use shipping containers for the project. He said that they looked at several options but settled on shipping containers due to their modular design and adaptability. He also states “Being able to have the structure built off-site was a real advantage as it did not disrupt normal operations. The install had occurred over one working week with pick-ups finalised in the following days. The real advantages of using containers are flexibility and keeping construction time to a minimum.”

“Our sustainment business has seen significant growth over the last few years and with this came a requirement to increase our capability at the Pott Point naval base in Sydney. The containerised solution allowed BAE Systems to increase its footprint while setting a new standard for temporary office accommodation. While the office complex appears permanent, it is very portable and can be relocated to a new site and operational within a short amount of time.”

We also asked Mark why he chose us to design and construct the Container Office Complex. “After an extensive due diligence process, we selected Port Shipping Containers. Reviewing what we have achieved and in the short amount of time allocated, there is no doubt Port Shipping Containers has delivered on its promises. It now has been a few weeks since we completed the project, and everyone is very happy with their new office and the quality of finish.”
