A Mobile Off-Grid Container Classroom built for TAFE NSW
After securing a $2.5 million Government grant to roll out a hands-on clean energy training program across New South Wales, TAFE NSW went to market for a purpose-built mobile training fleet. Port Shipping Containers was selected to design and construct one of two dual-purpose shipping containers that transform into fully functioning mobile classroom, complete with a renewable energy system, battery storage, and interactive learning technology. Based out of Tamworth, the Off-Grid Container Classroom will travel throughout the region, visiting renewable energy zones and schools to bring industry-ready clean energy training directly to local communities.

TAFE NSW classrooms on wheels!
Engineered as a fully mobile training hub, this container delivers immersive renewable energy education, live demonstrations and community engagement programs across solar, wind and electric vehicle technologies. Easily transported on the back of a truck, it operates as a TAFE NSW classroom on wheels—taking practical, hands-on renewable energy training directly to regional campuses, worksites and communities where it’s needed most.
Equipped with rooftop solar panels and a 10 kW battery system, the off-grid classroom reliably powers internal LED lighting, multiple display monitors and two expansive hydraulic awnings integrated into the container’s side wall. High-quality internal insulation and split-system air conditioning ensure a comfortable learning environment in Australian conditions, so training can continue efficiently and safely all year round.
