Port Shipping Containers was contacted by Paxton Wines, a family business that owns and manages several vineyards throughout McLaren Vale, to help them design and build a ‘pop-up’ cellar door container.
Paxton Wines have been growing grapes since 1979, and now manage their own vineyards using biodynamic and organic principles. You will find their permanent cellar door located on the gateway to McLaren Vale, with twelve portfolio wines on offer.
“Our Landcross Farm cellar door can be tricky to find, especially if you miss the turn off.” States Paxton Wines Marketing Manager Jason Nikolas, “So, by ‘popping up’ in more central McLaren Vale, we’re hoping more visitors will become familiar with Paxton, and the vineyards we manage.”
Jason explains why they chose to use a shipping container for this project. “The flexibility around this container offers us plenty of options, and it’s likely to be used for an event at some stage. For a minimal cost, it can be dropped into the right activation, instant cellar door / bar sorted! We can even throw it on a train interstate for an event in Melbourne. It’s durable, secure, and portable, which is very important. Also, the fact it is a recycled container sits very well with us, from a sustainability perspective.”

Cellar Door Container Features
Built from a 20’ High Cube, the portable Cellar Door Container features an insulated cool room with sliding door, three gas strut awnings with flip down removeable bar tops, stainless steel bench with built in sink and hand wash basin, hot water system, vinyl flooring, personnel door, air conditioner recess with perforated plate hinged door and electrical fit out.
